Drive Your Plow Over The Bones Of The Dead – by Complicité – First Look (Photos)

It’s not the first time I’ve mentioned this – Drive Your Plow Over The Bones Of The Dead is my most awaited theatre release of 2023. Sure, it’s because I’m proud that the wonderful Polish novel is having such a triumphant stagey welcome in Europe, but also because the shows created by Complicité are always such a treat for the soul.

Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead is conceived and directed by their Artistic Director and Co-Founder Simon McBurney. The piece is based on Nobel Prize-Winner Olga Tokarczuk’s genre-defying novel of the same name.

Update: I have watched the show in March 2023 in the Barbican, you can read my review here (click).

The first production photos for Drive Your Plow Over The Bones Of The Dead were just released – have a look below:

The star-studded cast of the upcoming show includes both veteran Complicité collaborators and fresh faces joining the company for the first time. The lead, Janina Duszejko, will be portrayed by Kathryn Hunter and depicts a former engineer, environmentalist, astrology enthusiast, and William Blake translator. The talented ensemble also features Thomas Arnold, Johannes Flaschberger, Amanda Hadingue, Kiren Kebaili-Dwyer, Weronika Maria, Tim McMullan, César Sarachu, Sophie Steer, and Alexander Uzoka. Please note that casting is subject to change at certain venues.

Complicité’s production, backed by a pan-European network of co-producers, launched at Theatre Royal Plymouth from December 1-3, 2022 and is now showing at Bristol Old Vic from January 19 to February 11. Up next, it will perform at Oxford Playhouse from March 1-4 before opening nationwide at the Barbican, London on March 20 for a run from March 15 to April 1. The tour will then continue with stops at Nottingham Playhouse (April 4-8), Belgrade Theatre Coventry (April 19-22), and The Lowry (April 25-29) before embarking on international dates in May and June 2023 at Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg and L’Odéon-Théâtre de l’Europe in Paris.

Tour dates in England are now available for purchase at http://www.complicite.org/.
